Hospice Volunteers
Volunteers at the Central Campus of Confluence Health Hospital are special people who provide essential services and support to our patients and their caregivers. The presence of a volunteer can help ease painful times for terminally ill patients and their loved ones.
Volunteers may fulfill any number of roles, including:
-
Respite for caregivers
-
Companionship and socialization for patients
-
Assistance with errands
-
Assistance with correspondence, office work or other special projects
-
Assistance with light household chores or tasks
Volunteers participate in an extensive training course covering hospice history, philosophy, the interdisciplinary team approach, communication skills, confidentiality ethics, grief and loss, universal precautions, safety in the home, spirituality and more. This training prepares volunteers on the best ways to accommodate the needs of patients and their families. Volunteers must pass a background check and complete required immunizations.
Following the training, volunteers are asked to provide two to four hours of service per week with patients and/or families and attend monthly volunteer meetings.
